aromatherapy oil guide…

tea tree

Melaleuca Alternifolia

The tree takes is name from Captain Cook who brewed an anti scurvy tea from the leaves of a similar variety on his long voyages. The tree is covered with white or pinkish flowers, and in the spring the sight of the small trees laden with blossom is really something to behold.

The pure oil is produced from the leaves by distillation, and is becoming more widely appreciated of late for its wide ranging beneficial skin properties, and freshening aromatheraputic value.

A deep cleansing oil with strong anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, it is useful in inhalations and skincare blends.

For a tight chest or barking cough, put a few drops in base oil and massage around the infected area. For insect bites, burns and abrasions, apply diluted to the infected area with a little cotton wool.
